Abstract:
Starting with the two similar icons of the Galaktotrophousa entitled «i Spelaiotissa», which are associated with Ioannis, son of Athanasios, from Kapesovo and his son Anastasios Anagnostis, the following are examined: the iconographical models of this specific variation, its possible relation to an engraving of the Mega Spelaion Monastery and its impact on wall paintings, icons and drawings of the Kapesovo workshop in the last quarter of the 18th century (1778-1793). The new information leads to identifying the painter Ioannis, who signs the icons of the Galaktotrophousa «the Spelaiotissa» in the Velimezis Collection, with Ioannis of Kapesovo, son of Athanasios, and to attributing two working drawings with the same theme (Benaki Museum, Giannoulis Collection) to the same painter or to the circle of his workshop.
