Abstract:
This article is a report of the 11th “Biennale de la langue française", which was held in Tours (F) in May 1985. The author shows that language planning is also a subject of great interest outside of the University. The congress participants in Tours tried to outline the prospects of the development of the French language. Linguists and, above all, representatives of associations for the defense and the promotion of the French language, who came from all parts of the francophone world, participated in the discussion. It was concluded that francophone Africa could play the main role the development of French in the second Millenium.
