Abstract:
The article relates to a research project relative to the motives and the obstacles for the in service training of teachers. Based on the research outcomes and a comprehensive literature review, a model for in-service training of teachers was developed, which is described as "inductive" and "constructive". The model is described on the basis of three dimensions: "Teacher Effectiveness", "Content of In-service Training" and "In-service Training Methodology". The first dimension, Teacher Effectiveness, refers to the macro- (globalization, knowledge and technology explosion, multiculturalism) and micro-variables (student, classroom, school) which affect teachers' everyday practice. The second dimension, "Content of In-service Training", relates to knowledge, attitudes and skills required for teachers to be described as effective. The third and last dimension, "In-service Training Methodology", refers to the methodology of in-service training, which is defined by four qualities: problem-centered and situated approach, action research, social reflective practice, and self-evaluation.
