Abstract:
The aim of the present study was: (a) to investigate the role of scene schemata in object recognition, (b) to answer the question of how an object is better recognized, through its picture or its name, and (c) to examine if the two above depend on gender. 96 boys and girls 7years old were examined in a recognition test of objects in indoors and outdoors scenes. The results showed that schemata tell us more about the central gist of the scenes and less about the objects these scenes contain. Name and picture play the same important role in object recognition, and picture consists of general than detailed information of an object in a scene. Boys and girls recognized the same number of objects in scenes.
