Abstract:
Medical Epigraphy is a neglected branch of the History of Medicine. This is most unfortunate, for it provides a good deal of information, about otherwise unknown ancient physicians, epidemics of that time, the history of Medical Law, the history of medical instruments, the history of various branches of medicine such as pathology, surgery, therapeutics traumatology e.t.c. Indicatively mentioned are the Stone Code of Laws of Gortys, the Pillars-Cures at the Temples of Aesculapius in Epidavros, Athens and Levis (Creta), the Epigraph-Dedication to Amphiaraos by Archinos, the Pillar expressing the Gratitude for services rendered in time of plague, that of the Parliament and the Municipality of Ephessus to a physician named Alexander Alexandrou, the Epigraph Dedication to physician Aenias and many others to which this announcement — first in its kind as we believe — is dedicated.
