From the blazons to the national emblems of the Hellenic regions (1204-1862)

Abstract:
Since the proclamation of its independence, the Greek state does not recognize blazons of noble families; nevertheless, in the regions now being part of Greece, the use of blazons was widespread, especially after the Latin conquest of Constantinople in 1204. The author, relying on the principles of the Heraldic, examines the form and the significance of these blazons, and their relationship to the official national emblems of independent Greece.
