Abstract:
The present research is related to the response of a sample of primary school students towards the animator’s instructions during dramatic play. The experimental study was carried out in ten school forms from the second until the sixth school grade, in the 10th primary school of Heliopolis, Athens. The experimental sample included 164 students. Methodologically, the ethnomethodological approach, involving the use of the inquiring technique, that is, participative observation, was employed. For the collection of the inquiring data, videorecordings, taperecordings and calendar bulletins were used. The basic conclusion of the research is located in the fact that the primary school students’ response to the instructions of the dramatic play animator varies. This variety in the students’ response follows a graded scale with the minimum limit of the students’ indifference and their refusal of implementation of the instructions and the maximum limit of their individualised application. Moreover, on the one hand, most students materialise the orders, contained in the animator’s instructions, for dramatic action. On the other hand, a small percentage of them withdraws from the dramatic play. Also, the students’ response towards the animator’s instructions is associated with the demographic variable of sex. In other words, compared to the boys, the girls prove to be more creative participants in the dramatic play. Finally, based on the analysis of qualitative data, we can conclude that age does not appear to influence the participation of students in the dramatic play.
