Abstract:
At Kalamion near Khania five small LM IIIA - B chamber tombs were discovered and excavated. The dead were placed on the floor and provided with pottery, bronze tools and weapons and vessels of bronze and stone. The vases, especially the early 11 IB pyxis (fig. 2 ) and ritual vessel (fig. 3 ) belong to the best products of the Cydonia pottery workshop (BCH 1969 / 1 ).The nearest ancient city is Aptera, or Aptara mentioned in the Knossos tablets and known so far from finds no earlier than Geometric. Only a systematic investigation can show whether these tombs formed eventually part of its LM cemetery.
