Abstract:
In this paper, an attempt will be made to approach the possible contribution of aesthetics to the process of architectural design and the process of creation generally in the arts and even in science.More often than not, aesthetics is considered as a branch of philosophy distinct from the theory of knowledge and ethics, thus following distinctions made by I. Kant in his three “critiques”. Within this tradition, aesthetics is utilised as philosophy of art focusing mainly on the apprehension and evaluation of a work of art.In contrast to this treatment of aeshetics as a conceptual evaluation tool of a constructed object, which consequently legitimizes several aesthetic categories, we will rather be considering aesthetics as a foundation of knowledge towards the ontological constitution of architecture as a man-made construction.Aesthetics, instead of assessing a posteriori the diverse stylistic manifestations of making as ways of being, would rather be treated as a method guiding the making of a work of art, the constitution of its being. Considered in this sense, aesthetics could be a kind or a constituent of knowledge suitable to the peculiarities of constructional logos, of which architecture is the prime metaphor.
