Abstract:
The excavation of the Archaic and Classical settlement on the Table of Thessaloniki was carried out for the 8th year. The excavational data this year provided evidence for the boundaries and the structure of the unfortified settlement, the architecture of the houses, whose plan is similar to that of Olynthus, the way of life of the inhabitans, and the successive phases from the10th to the 4th century. B.C. The pottery is very interesting, since both local and imported from the Aegean and Central Greece vases were found; furthermore the discovery of pots and sherds at specific rooms of the houses is very significant. The historical evaluation of the archaeological finds from the Toumba of Thessaloniki is necessary, since the settlement played a role in Northern Greece in the period before the founding of Thessaloniki in the late 4thcentury B.C.
