The article discusses subjects arising from a comparative study of lifenarratives of migrants from rural to urban space, with the history of the city that has received them. A fundamental point is how far such a narrative is ‘personal’ of somebody who has progressed through this new environment and, at the same time, how ‘public’ a reference to the city is, when it rests upon personal experience.
