Abstract:
This paper has been basically concerned with attempting to describe and interprete the following four morphological and phonological phenomena of modern Greek language within the generative grammar framework : a') The morphological difference between nouns indicating nationality and ending in -os (-às) and nouns indicating also nationality and ending in -ikós ( i k o s ) , when both are used as adjectives, b') The insertion of the vowel i between the consonants of certain consonant clusters in lexical items, c') The addition of the consonant -s at the end of certain lexical items, and d') the phonetic differentiation of pairs of lexical items which have identical phonological representation but different meanings by pronouncing the phoneme | i j as [i] in the one word, but as [j] in the other, although the phonetic environment is the same.
